Takotsubo Cardiomyopathy: Broken Heart Syndrome

Takotsubo Cardiomyopathy, otherwise known as Broken Heart Syndrome, is a condition in which stress hormones from a significant event such as the death of a loved one, cause a weakening of a chamber in the heart. The afflicted heart's left ventricle resembles the shape of the Japanese tako tsubo octopus trap - earning the condition its name.
